Our Language Arts Curriculums
At Sacred Heart School, we provide a comprehensive language arts program designed to foster strong literacy skills from Kindergarten through 5th grade. We utilize three key curriculums to support student growth at every level:
Zaner-Bloser Superkids (Grades K-2)
The Superkids curriculum is a dynamic, phonics-based reading program tailored for young learners in grades K-2. It builds foundational literacy skills through engaging characters, interactive lessons, and activities that promote reading, writing, spelling, and vocabulary development. Superkids helps students develop a love for reading while ensuring mastery of essential skills.
Benchmark Education (Grades 3-5)
For students in grades 3-5, we use Benchmark Education, a research-based program that integrates reading, writing, and comprehension strategies. It provides rich texts across various genres, helping students become confident readers and critical thinkers. The curriculum focuses on improving literacy through differentiation, ensuring that each student’s individual needs are met.
Accelerated Reader (AR) by Renaissance (All Grades)
The Accelerated Reader (AR) program is used schoolwide to encourage independent reading and track student progress. AR allows students to choose books at their reading level, take comprehension quizzes, and earn points for their achievements. This program motivates students to read more, improves reading skills, and fosters a lifelong love for literature.
Together, these curriculums provide a well-rounded language arts education that supports students’ reading and writing development from early learning through elementary school.
